Workers' compensation available for victims of work accidents

The California Division of Occupational Safety and Health recently reported that it had completed the investigation into the tragic accident that killed one person and caused serious injuries to another during the cleaning up after the February mudslide in Santa Cruz County. Fortunately, the injured victim and the family of the deceased worker did not have to wait for the conclusion of the investigation before claiming workers' compensation benefits. They were entitled to pursue financial assistance immediately after the workplace accident.

Workers' compensation claim may follow big rig driver's death

Big rig drivers in California face multiple workplace hazards while navigating the state's busy freeways. Along with the crash hazards that they have to deal with, unattainable or unrealistic deadlines imposed by many employers force truckers to sacrifice rest time to meet the required standards. Sadly, fatigue is often the result, making them even more vulnerable while driving. An unexplained crash recently claimed the life of a truck driver whose family will likely rely on workers' compensation benefits to assist with the unanticipated expenses.

Study: Infrastructure investment tied to pedestrian, biker safety

Public investment in infrastructure appears closely tied to pedestrian and bicyclist safety, according to a new study. Researchers compared fatality rates in 46 U.S. regions with each region's 'Bicycle Friendly Community' and 'Walk Friendly Community' rankings and found a surprisingly large difference between the safest and most dangerous communities.
